Clonmult Commemoration















The 89th annual Clonmult Martyrs Commemoration took place last Sunday 21/02/2010. The proceedings were chaired by Walter Nagle,Chairperson Clonmult Martyrs Cumann Midelton. Wreaths were layed on behalf of the Republican Movement Cork, Sinn Féin Chorcai and families of the Volunteers,a minute's silence was impeccably observed & flags were lowered by the Cork Colour Party.

Two newly elected Sinn Féin councillors Tommy Gould (Cork City Council) & Pat Buckley (Midleton Town Council) both read out tributes of rememberance of the fallen freedom fighters, in what turned out to be biggest single greatest loss of the Cork IRA when 12 men were shot dead & a further 2 were later executed by crown forces. The 2 councillors also outlined what an inspiration these men where & also how we must continue to work towards achieving what these young lads died for. It was also commented that it was great to see such a large turnout of all ages. The event was concluded by Youghal RFB playing Amhrán na bhFiann.
